Preparing for A Level Music Technology This informative course is intended for those teaching AS level music technology for the first time. It will be particularly beneficial for teachers wanting to set up the course, and will look at resources, equipment requirements, and how to develop an integrated scheme of work. This course will begin with a look at optional pathways, required coursework, deadlines / timescales and exam content. Equipment requirements can be addressed that will allow a costing forecast on a per 2 student basis. Investigation will be made into which software is both available to purchase using e-learning credits and also appropriate for your chosen pathways for this course.
Teaching A Level Music Technology This course is intended for those that have started teaching at AS level and are wanting to develop their skills ready to teach A2. The required coursework and exam content is examined in detail, and guidelines are given to help avoid common submission mistakes. Example assignments are given, and marking schemes to help assess the standard of work.
A Level Music Technology Workshops Our A Level music technology workshops can a be modified for INSET teacher training sessions. These include Music Technology Principles, Recording Techniques 1 and 2, Sequencing and Arranging. Further details can be found under the section titled Workshops

This information is fundamental if teachers want students to achieve their best. MTS offers a range of excellent training programmes across all levels of ability. This concentrates on all the major software programmes on the market. If you need something particular, our training packages can be tailored to individual requirements. Training is available on both PC and MAC platforms. Software specific training is available for all Steinberg products. e.g. Cubase SX, SL and SE, Cubase VST and Cubasis, Wavelab, Halion and other Soft Synths. Training for all other music creation packages is also available e.g. Logic, Sonar, Cool Edit Pro, Sound Forge, Sibelius, Finale and Print Music.
The MTS Guide to Cubase - Level 1 The course begins by introducing the fundamental principles of the software and how it integrates audio and MIDI into the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). The basic operations of how to record and playback audio/MIDI tracks, add effects, and basic mixdown. All the techniques that you will need to know to achieve immediate results will be explained. Virtual instruments can also be introduced at this level.
The MTS Guide to Cubase - Level 2 Progresses to multitrack recording, audio and MIDI editing, using virtual instruments and advanced sequencing techniques. Dynamics and other advanced signal processing, routing and the bus system, advanced mixdown and mastering. Explanation of audio CD format and why Red Book compatibility is important.
Understanding Computers This course is aimed at those wanting to extend their knowledge of computer systems. It looks in depth at the individual components of a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), and investigates how they work together. Your understanding of CPU, memory, operating system and bits, bytes and megabytes will all become clear.
These courses are aimed at teachers within schools that have recording studio facilities. Each course is delivered by one of our professional studio engineers and examines standard studio hardware such as mixing desks, compressors/gates, effects, analogue and digital multitrack recording equipment and how and when to use them effectively.
Basic Training Introduces the fundamental principles of microphone type and technique, and the mixing desk. Introduction to the channel strip, gain and attenuation, equalization, pan and balance. At the end of the workshop you will gain the knowledge to be able to create a live mix
